Students follow a contemporary Geography course that has been developed in consultation with the Geographical Association, Royal Geographical Society and leading HE institutions. The course is designed so that students are inspired by the world around them, gain enjoyment and satisfaction from their geographical studies and understand their relevance in the dynamic world in which we all live and work. Although desirable, it is not essential for A Level students to have studied GCSE Geography, as the department has an extremely successful record with students who are extending their GCSE studies and those who wish to return to the subject at this stage. Topics studied will include: global hazards, landscape systems, climate change, globalisation, governance and geopolitics, urban and rural regeneration, coastal or glacial processes and management, the carbon and water cycles and how these relate to water and energy security, ecosystems and population and migration issues. The students will develop an understanding of geographical concepts and processes within the context of contemporary global issues, develop their awareness of the complexity of interactions within and between societies, economies, cultures and environments and recognise the challenges of sustainability and the implications for their own and others' lives. What you need to get on

Grade 6 in GCSE Geography guarantees a place on this course. Please note that applicants must also meet our overall entry requirements of scoring at least a total of 42 points (simply add up all your GCSE grades) and achieve a Grade 4 or higher in both English Language and Mathematics.
