What the college says

The department is situated in a purpose-built Music Suite with a Recital Hall, a large classroom, a dedicated 6th form music teaching room, 3 instrumental teaching rooms, 4 further practice rooms, a recording studio and instrumental storeroom. 'A' Level students are offered the use of these rooms when available during their personal study time. The music department is very lively and provides many extra-curricular activities. These include two Big Bands, String Orchestra, Concert Band, a 6th form Jazz Ensemble, choir and around 10 small instrumental ensembles for specialist chamber music coaching. There are further opportunities for students to form their own chamber ensembles, small jazz groups and rock bands. A key part of the extra-curricular programme for A2 music is the opportunity to direct and rehearse some of the junior ensembles. This forms part of the leadership programme which also includes leading music projects at nearby primary schools.
