If you choose A Level English Literature, you will read, engage with, discuss with insight and write critical essays on a wide range of texts, including poetry, prose and drama. You will need to be an enthusiastic, perceptive reader who is passionate about Literature. Throughout the course, you will explore the texts in-depth, considering the functions and effects of structure, form and language; the ways in which texts are interpreted by different readers; how they relate to one another and the contexts in which they are written and read. A major feature of A Level English Literature lessons are spirited and reflective discussions and your teacher will encourage you to share your thoughts regularly with the class. As the course continues, you will develop and enhance your techniques of analysis, evaluation and comparison of literary texts and you will learn how to structure your creative ideas into fluent, thoughtful essays that show an appreciation of the writers’ craft. The coursework element will offer you the opportunity to read widely and to work independently on texts of your own choosing. By the end of the course, we aim for you to leave your Literature studies with a deeper appreciation and understanding of literature.

What you need to get on

All A level courses or TWO A levels and ONE vocational course: Students must achieve a min of 5 subjects at GCSE grades 4 or above (including English Language and Maths) PLUS the relevant subject specific entry requirements. For a programme of 2 vocational courses and one A level: we would accept ONE KS4 level 2 Merit in place of a GCSE For a programme of 3 vocational courses only: we would accept TWO KS4 level 2 Merits in place of 2 GCSEs, full entry requirements can be found in our prospectus.
