English Literature
at Stepney All Saints Church of England Secondary School, London · school or sixth form
What the college says
English Literature builds on skills already developed at GCSE. Students cover a range of texts from across genres, drawing comparisons and analysing ideas and themes in depth. There is a lot of emphasis placed on reading, both for the course and for pleasure. Throughout the course the focus is on analysing the ways in which stories are told and thereby constructing different realities; a significant element to this is understanding the context in which texts are produced and thinking about the ways in which we understand them as readers, or viewers in the case of drama. Assessment of this subject consists of 3 terminal examinations and one piece of coursework.
