History is a very rewarding subject to study because it tries to interpret and explain the events, issues and major personalities that have helped to shape the world we live in. The options in the first year are linked by the themes of nationalism and dictatorship and their links with democracy. The course will help develop the skills and qualities required for further education or employment. It will help you develop the ability to evaluate and analyse evidence. It will also help you to formulate clear and precise arguments that are well-communicated and well-supported so you should never lose an argument again!

What you need to get on

Grade 5 in English Language. An interest in studying the past and its impact on today and an average GCSE score of 5.20 or higher. Grade C or above in GCSE History is desirable.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
