GCE A Level in Sociology
at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School · school or sixth form
What the college says
Sociology is the study of society and social behaviour. Its for you if you're curious about human nature, interested in investigating topics like equality, poverty, crime, religion and education from a sociological perspective. You may have some knowledge of the subject from GCSE, but you don't need to have studied it already to take the A level. In a rapidly changing and diverse society, Sociology is an extremely popular A Level choice for students nationally. A Level Sociology is a good choice because it offers students a fascinating insight into factors / institutions which shape human behaviour, helping students understand themselves and others better. As well as the subject matter, you'll also learn about social science research methods and the course will give you transferable skills including critical thinking, communication, research and problem solving. Sociology is often taken with other Social Science and Humanities subjects such as Economics, Psychology, Geography, History, English, Business Studies and Religious Studies, although it can be combined with others.
