RS GCE A Level investigates ultimate questions such as what is the purpose of life? and why does evil exist? We will study the diversity of life and religion in the modern world. You will be able to understand contemporary ethical, and religious issues such as medical ethics and immigration. Students will consider many questions that are often deeply philosophical and can serve to improve the critical thinking skills necessary for many degree courses, such as philosophy, PPE, Economics and medicine. RS promotes deeper thought and analysis of broader issues such as "Do humans have an in-built need for a divine being?" We often ask the 'why' questions and can provide an important perspective when considering the 'how' questions often asked in science. An understanding of religious ideas, symbols and concepts is crucial to a good understanding of art, literature, and media in general which is an essential skill. RS will help you to develop a greater understanding of the religious issues behind important events in history and current events. The Russell Group of top universities has made it clear that Religious Studies provides 'suitable preparation for university' and Oxford and Cambridge include it in their top level list of 'suitable arts A levels.

What you need to get on

You must achieve a Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English Literature and English Language. A GCSE grade 6 or higher in a humanities subject, such as History or Geography would also be considered. GCSE Religious Studies is not a prerequisite

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
