If you have an enquiring mind and enjoy lively discussion, you will find the units in Philosophy and Ethics both challenging and interesting, regardless of whether or not you have a religious background. The course covers a variety of units, from Aristotelian and Platonic Philosophy, to theories of Ethics such as Situational Ethics and Utilitarianism. In Year 13, topics include the meaning of Religious Language and varieties of religious experience in Philosophy and ideas of conscience, freedom and Meta-ethics in Ethics. The course is supplemented by visiting speakers in the areas of philosophy and religion and, currently, a Jacobsen Philosophy Course provided by the Royal Institute of Philosophy. There are also trips to various Philosophy and Ethics conferences in Cheltenham and Oxford.
