MT plays a key role in Music across the world. This A Level is designed to open up a range of exciting and useful tasks to students from a variety of musical backgrounds, encourage them to learn about the subject in depth with chances to build understanding of technical processes and principles that underpin effective use of MT. 4 parts are delivered over 2 years: Recording (externally assessed practical coursework (20%): students complete 1 multi-track recording from 10 songs from exam board. They will develop knowledge and understanding of production tools and techniques required to capture, edit, process and mix an audio recording. Lesson-based. Technology-based Composition (externally assessed practical coursework (20%): students compose original piece chosen from 3 briefs set by exam board. They explore creation, editing, structure and manipulation of sounds to produce a technology-based composition. Lesson-based. Listening and Analysing (1.5hr written exam (25%): students show knowledge and understanding of recording, production techniques and principles in context of a series of unfamiliar commercial recordings from exam board. They will apply knowledge of recording and production techniques for corrective and creative purposes, principles of sound and audio technology and the development of recording and production technology. What you need to get on

You do not need to have studied Music at GCSE Level in order to study the A Level course. It is highly recommended that you have a competent level of music theory understanding, are able to read notation and that you have a strong aptitude for Music. We would also require a minimum of Grade 5 in GCSE Maths and English.
