If you are moving on from GCSE Music, intending on a career as a musical performer or composer, or simply enjoy listening to and performing all kinds of music, then A level music could be for you. The course is excellent preparation for higher education courses in music, but it is equally valuable as a second or third choice to complement your other A level subject choices. You'll need strong performance skills and a willingness to engage with a range of musical styles and genres. Music A level will give you transferable skills such as creativity, self-discipline, teamwork and time management which are useful in a wide range of careers.

What you need to get on

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE music, Grade 5 / 6 on an instrument or voice and fluency at reading both the treble or bass clefs. You will be required to perform to Music Department staff and participate in concerts. If no GCSE Music you must have at least passed Grade 5 Music Theory.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
