Studying A Level Music at WHSG will give you the opportunity to join a very busy and vibrant department. It will provide a good platform for developing your leadership and musicianship skills, as well as giving you a stimulating practical, and academic subject to study within the 6th Form. The AS/A Level Music course will provide students with the opportunity to broaden their musical experiences and interests, develop their imagination, foster creativity and communicate effectively as musicians. They will develop their practical musicianship skills, aural awareness and academic study of music history, harmony and theory. They will develop an appreciation of a variety of contrasting musical genres by extending their knowledge and understanding in class and independently. The A Level course gives students the opportunity to specialise in either performance or composition, and the Department is very well equipped with music technology software (iMacs | Sibelius | Logic Pro X) to support them in the creation and presentation of music.

What you need to get on

GCSE Music grade 6 minimum, at least Grade 5 standard on one instrument and a good understanding of music theory and notation. BTEC Music qualifications at Distinction Level may be considered instead of GCSE Music if students meet the other criteria above.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
