History is a fascinating subject which will provide you with a fantastic insight into human behaviour and motivation and will help you to understand the world in which we live. Whilst we don’t study any Twentieth Century History at A level, all of the units have an influence on the modern world, and none more so than the period of the English Civil War and Interregnum, 1603-60– Britain’s first constitutional crisis and the birth of political and religious radicalism, as well as a vital chapter in the development of our parliamentary democracy. You will also study the USA in the 19th Century, including the American Civil War, and the development of the French Nation State from 1498-1610, following the French equivalent of the Tudor dynasty through religious turmoil, factional intrigue and the struggle for power. This means that you broaden your knowledge and understanding of history, and you get the chance to study a range of different societies.

What you need to get on

GCSE History Grade 6 or, if History was not taken at GCSE, Grade 6 in English Literature.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
