German A-Level: What will I be covering in the course in Year 12? An 'A' Level in German builds upon the linguistic skills and vocabulary gained during your GCSE course. There is a greater emphasis on both grammatical knowledge and spontaneity in order to equip you to write essays and have a detailed discussion in the exams. The Year 12 course covers a variety of contemporary issues: Aspects of German society Artistic culture in the German-speaking world An authentic text or film We follow the course books to support the teaching of these topics and use additional authentic resources where possible. Students are expected to improve their linguistic skills to meet the demands of this course through regular independent exposure to the target language via a wealth of online materials. What will I be covering in the course in Year 13? The year 13 course covers further contemporary issues: Multiculturalism, diveristy and current issues in target language speaking society Aspects of political life in the German world An authentic text and independent research around an aspect of this topic Again staff follow the course books to support the teaching of these topics and use authentic materials when possible. As the content covered relates to a plethora of curriculum areas, students would also be expected to carry out their own independent research to support their understanding of the material covered.

What you need to get on

Students choosing to study four A levels* If you wish to study four A levels you must achieve: Six GCSE's at grade 7or above. Mathematics and English at grade 6 or above. Students choosing to study three A Levels If you wish to study three A levels you must achieve: Six GCSE's at grade 6 or above. Mathematics and English at grade 5 or above. If the subject has been studied at GCSE you need to have gained a 6 in that subject.
