What the college says

A-Level Geography explores the interactions between people and the environment, examining the physical and human processes that shape our planet. The course develops a strong understanding of global issues and the interconnections between places, environments and societies. Students study topics such as tectonic processes and hazards, coastal change, the water and carbon cycles, globalisation, regenerating places, superpowers, and health, human rights and intervention. Emphasis is placed on enquiry, critical thinking and the application of geographical data, models, and case studies. Fieldwork is an essential element of the course, giving students practical experience through day trips and residential visits, including fieldwork in Dorset. In Year 13, students complete an Independent Investigation based on their fieldwork, developing skills in research, data collection, analysis and evaluation.
