Through A Level geography, you will develop the skills to think synoptically between both human and physical geography concepts. In human geography, students explore concepts such as identity, perceptions and lived experiences in urban and rural places. Whilst also learning about increasing interconnectedness around the world through the complexities of cultural, economic, social and political globalisation. This will help prepare you for the geopolitical geographies learnt in year 13, whereby military, economic, political and resource power help to determine the superpower and emerging status of a few countries in the world. In physical geography, you will study the complex relations between tectonic hazards and disasters. You will also gain a deep understanding of the human and physical factors that both contribute to coastal flood risk, recession rates and processes along coastlines, which is an increasingly problematic issue for the coastlines in the UK and low-lying nations around the world. Understanding these more complex processes allows students to deepen their understanding of geographical issues and to be able to appreciate the complexities of topics they were introduced to in earlier years. The NEA (coursework) will provide an opportunity to use their fieldwork skills and geographical knowledge to investigate a topic of their choice in either human or physical geography.
