What the college says

Further Mathematics is ideal for students with an enthusiasm for mathematics, many of whom will go on to degrees in mathematics, engineering, the sciences and economics. The qualification is deeper and broader than A Level Mathematics. As well as building on algebra and calculus introduced in A Level Mathematics, the Further Mathematics core content introduces complex numbers, vectors and matrices, fundamental mathematical ideas with wide applications in many fields. The non-core content also covers mechanics on a deeper level and Decision maths is a module focused on algorithms and procedures. This will require students to use their mathematical knowledge to make logical and reasoning decisions, in solving problems both within pure mathematics and in a variety of contexts and communicate the mathematical rationale for these decisions clearly.
