What the college says

A Level English Literature (AQA A) sits comfortably alongside all other A Level choices because it is analytical, draws upon socio-historical understanding, is creative but also allows for and rewards individual interests and specialisms. Indeed, English Literature was one of the Russell Group’s original ‘facilitating’ subjects — so called because choosing it keeps many paths open. We usually have two or three students go on to study English/Creative Writing in some form or another at university, enriched by our delivery of the A Level course. Ultimately, it is the building of communication skills which is honed through A Level English Literature: you will read closely and widely, write thought-provoking essays and discuss and debate the best of what has been written about with increasing confidence.
