What the college says

This course is for students who want to continue studying English beyond GCSE and learn more about the history and culture of the world through some of its most acclaimed literary texts. If Language studies how words combine to make meaning, English Literature considers the subject from a more artistic and contextual level. We look at how poetry, drama and prose have both represented the world and communicated its core values. A level English course provide a solid grounding in the useful core skills you will need for all higher education courses. You will refine your comprehension skills, learn how to take effective notes and plan essays; you will also develop an academic writing style needed for all degree courses and jobs requiring clear communication.
