The credit crunch, bankers’ bonuses, fears of a Euro meltdown and Brexit are topics rarely out of the news in recent years, throwing a light on the importance of and divisions within the discipline. Economics is intellectually robust and of contemporary relevance. It can prepare you for jobs that are rewarding both financially and intellectually: Actuarial Studies, Accountancy, Investment and Corporate Banking, Finance and Politics, amongst many others.

What you need to get on

Grade 6 in GCSE Economics/ Business Studies (where taken); Grade 5 or above in GCSE Mathematics is essential; Grade 6 or above in Mathematics is highly recommended; Grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
