At Sacred Heart we offer Edexcel A Level Drama and Theatre studies to any student with a level 6 or above in Drama and English at GCSE. The A Level is taught over 2 years, with 40% of the assessments taking place in year 12. A Level Drama and Theatre studies is not professional actors training although there are 3 assessed public performances (1 devised, 2 scripted). The course aims to provides the students with an opportunity to explore and develop their skills in analysing and evaluating performance genres, forms and styles. Students learn the social and historical impact of 3 key practitioners and explore technical theatre alongside text in performance. This course is suitable for any student interested in and career in the arts, social improvement/community outreach and is a respected qualification sought by top ranking universities.
