AQA GCE Drama and Theatre Studies consists one coursework component (component 1) and one externally assessed examined paper (component 2). Component 1: Exploration and Performance is worth 60% of the qualification. The content comprises of: a group performance/design realisation of one key extract from a performance text and a monologue or duologue performance/design realisation from one key extract from a different performance text. There are 3 parts to the assessment. The first requires the students to complete a portfolio that shows their creation and development of ideas. Their exploration of the chosen texts and practitioner and connections between theory and practice. It must also evidence their understanding of impact of the social, historical and cultural conventions of their work. The second is a group performance/design realisation. The third a 2- 4 minute monologue or duologue performance/design realisation. Each performance must be performed to a visiting moderator. Component 2: 1 hour and 45 minute externally assessed written examination worth 40% of the qualification. For this component the students answer two sections on the paper. Section A requires them to answer one extended response question that shows their ability to analyse and evaluate a live theatre performance. The students are allowed to bring in theatre evaluation notes of up to a maximum of 500 words. Section B requires students to answer two extended response questions on how they might interpret
