If you are interested in languages and communications and you enjoy learning about the cultures and life in other countries, and take a keen interest in current events and global issues which affect young people in society in the Chinese speaking world, then a course in Mandarin Chinese could be for you. You will need to feel confident in the four language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, as well as having some understanding of the culture and the way of life of Mandarin speaking countries. We would expect you to be prepared to study independently and to spend time over and above that allocated to lessons and homework to improve your language skills

What you need to get on

A minimum of a GCSE grade 6 in Chinese (Spoken Mandarin) and an APS of 6.0 This course can only be selected as a 4th option alongside 3 other courses.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
