What is Further Mathematics? Further Mathematics extends the understanding gained in A Level Mathematics to higher levels, as well as exploring topics afresh. It is advantageous to students who are considering studying Mathematics at university. Also, students who study Physics and Engineering will benefit from meeting Mathematics they might need at this stage. AS Course Content The course consists of one unit of Further Pure Maths and two applied units from the areas of Mechanics, Decision Maths and Statistics. You must have taken or be taking A Level Maths alongside this. A2 Course Content The A2 course consists of a further three units, where at least one of: Further Pure 2 and Further Pure 3 is required to be taken. The other units will be chosen from the areas of Mechanics, Decision Maths and Statistics. However no overlap with A Level Maths is permitted. AS/A2 Assessment Criteria All units are assessed by an examination of 1 hour 30 minutes. There is no coursework element. Exam Board: Edexcel
