This course is particularly aimed at able students with a strong interest in pursuing mathematical subjects after A levels such as engineering, science, computing or technology, as well as mathematics itself. If you're planning to study A level maths and would like to broaden and deepen your mathematical knowledge and skills, then taking further maths alongside A level maths may be for you. Further maths is a facilitating subject which means it will also prepare you for a wide range of higher education subjects. Some universities may require further maths for entry to maths degree courses. It will give you a range of transferable skills including logical reasoning and problem solving that are useful in a range of careers.

What you need to get on

The general entry requirement to be offered a place at Urmston Grammar Sixth Form from September 2026 is a minimum of five GCSE passes which include: 2 x grade 7s, 3 x grade 6s, GCSE grades must also include a minimum of grade 5 in English Language & Maths. To study this subject at A Level we would expect you to have achieved a Grade grade 8 or 9 in GCSE Maths.
