Extended Project Qualification - Level 3
at Wood Green School · school or sixth form
What the college says
The Extended Project Qualification is an independent piece of research done that is carried out with supervisor support but minimal supervision. You select an area of interest, pose a research question and start delving deeper into the topic and conducting primary and secondary research. You will have occasional meetings with a supervisor, whose role it is to ask you questions and support you in reflecting on your progress. In addition, you will receive lessons in critical thinking, report writing, referencing, library research skills and presentation skills. You will keep an on-going Project Production Log, write a report and present your project to an audience with a question and answer session. The written report is usually 5000 words long (1000 words if you produce an actual artefact or performance as part of your project). All in all, you are expected to carry out approximately eighty hours of independent research. Universities see the Extended Project Qualification as evidence of motivation to explore a subject in greater depth, as well as an opportunity for further development of analytical, critical thinking and independent research skills.
