This hands-on, industry-aligned qualification is your gateway into the world of automotive service and repair. Developed in collaboration with employers and technical experts, the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to begin a successful career as a Light Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician. Whether youre passionate about cars, enjoy problem-solving, or want to work in a fast-paced, evolving industry, this course offers the perfect foundation. Throughout the course, you’ll gain a strong understanding of: Vehicle systems and components (engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, etc.) Routine maintenance and servicing procedures Diagnosis and repair of mechanical and electrical faults Health, safety, and sustainability in the automotive environment Customer service and workplace professionalismYou will need to purchase the PPE pack which includes overalls, polo shirts and work trousers. You will also need steel toe cap footwear. All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a work placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a personal tutor to support their personal and professional development.
What you need to get on
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, including English and maths A genuine interest in the motor vehicle industry A successful interview and initial assessment to determine suitability If you don’t meet the entry criteria, we may offer you a place on a relevant Level 1 course to help you progress.

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
