A programme of study in Essential Skills can help you to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to progress onto further study. By gaining further qualifications you are on the path to your chosen career. If English isn't your main language, you can do a course to help you improve your English. These courses are called ESOL or English for Speakers of other Languages. ESOL courses cover: - speaking and listening - reading and writing - vocabulary - punctuation and grammar There are courses at different levels so you'll be able to start at the right level for you. Course content: The course is designed to provide you with an intensive ESOL and maths qualification. In addition you can try a range of different courses to help you decide on future study and career choices which may include; Art and Design Business Administration and Retail Construction Hair and Beauty Horticulture and Animal Care Hospitality and Catering Sport and Recreation We have students from a wide range of countries and backgrounds. A total of 36 different languages were spoken by our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students in 2013/14. Following successful completion of this course many students go onto to further study within College.

What you need to get on

You will need to be between the ages of 16-18 years old. There are no formal requirements for this course. Students will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme.

How you are assessed

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.
