This course is for you if you want to develop skills and knowledge in preparation for a career in the Public Services, such as the Police Service, the Fire & Rescue Service, the Ambulance Service, the Armed Forces, Prison and Security Services or HM Customs and Excise. The course provides an insight into the skills and helps you to develop the mental, personal and physical qualities abilities required in your chosen service.
What you need to get on
Entry requires 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, or a Level 1 related qualification, plus adequate English and maths. Mature learners with experience are welcome. You should have a strong interest in public services and a commitment to succeed. Expect practical and fitness sessions indoors and outdoors. No starting fitness level needed, just a positive attitude to improve.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
