What the college says

English Literature is one of the two A / AS Levels offered by the English Department. This is a two year course. When studying English Literature A Level, you will explore how a key genre (either Comedy or Tragedy) is represented within Literature. There is a specific focus on a Shakespeare play, and you will study at least two other texts from the same genre, which could include those by: Miller, Wilde, Hardy, Fitzgerald, Chaucer & Keats. You will also explore elements of either Crime or Political Writing, which could include texts by: McEwan, Atkinson, Browning, Dickens, Christie, Hosseini, Blake, Ibsen & Atwood. You will submit coursework on "Theory and Independence", which will be of your own choice, with guidance from your tutors.
