English Literature encourages students to develop important critical skills in reading and writing. These include analysing, planning, drafting, and developing a wider, critical vocabulary. The texts chosen will be drawn from both pre and post 20th century authors and will include drama, poetry and prose. Students are required to read widely beyond the texts studied in class. What you will do: • Study prose, poetry and drama (modern and pre 20th century) • Explore the significance of cultural, historical and other contextual influences on literary texts • Express opinions informed by different interpretations of literary texts • Consider the relationships between literary texts of different types and periods. Future prospects: • English Literature can be used as a basis for an English degree and/or other fields such as Medicine and Law • This subject equips you with excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary for any career.

Grade 6 or above in GCSE English Literature and in GCSE English Language

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
