This course is for students who want to continue studying English Literature after GCSE. It will suit you if you enjoy reading widely from different types of fiction including novels, poetry and plays. It naturally complements other arts and humanities subjects and is particularly suited to students wishing to pursue careers in the arts, the media, business, education, law or any other field in which communication and analytical skills are important.

What you need to get on

The general entry requirement to be offered a place at Urmston Grammar Sixth Form from September 2026 is a minimum of five GCSE passes which include: 2 x grade 7s, 3 x grade 6s, GCSE grades must also include a minimum of grade 5 in English Language & Maths. To study this subject at A Level we would expect you to have achieved a Grade 6 or above at GCSE in English Language and English Literature.
