What the college says

Throughout this course you will be encouraged to develop interest and enjoyment in the great writings of English Literature from a wide range of historical periods. You will read plays, poetry and novels, old and new, looking at how styles vary and interpretations change through time. You should do this subject if you love reading, enjoy discussion and debate, and care about social, political and moral issues which affect everyone. Whilst it is an advantage to enjoy reading as a leisure activity, it is by no means a pre-requisite. We select texts and design courses with an eye to developing enjoyment alongside appreciation.
