Principally, English Literature promotes the development of skills which are both highly valued by universities and employers and useful in life. Not least of these is the ability to analyse, to read for meaning. In this, you’ll be building on much of what made you successful at GCSE, but with a wider range of interesting texts. We’re also in the business of improving your ability and confidence in communication. We’ll help you to express your ideas with precision and passion whether it’s in group discussions or in creative or discursive writing. Crucially, the ‘non-exam assessment (or coursework) element of this course is a huge invitation to explore and enjoy independent learning.

What you need to get on

6th Form entry: The overall 6th Form entry requirements are: a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4, including a grade 9-4 in English. Subject specific entry: GCSE Grade 5 English Literature.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
