In English Literature students learn to approach the study of literature through the lens of historicism, encouraging the independent study of a range of texts within a shared context. This unifying approach facilitates the inclusion of a range of wider reading, thus extending students' experience and appreciation of literature. English Literature privileges the process of making autonomous meaning, encouraging students to debate and challenge the interpretations of other readers as they develop their own informed personal responses.

Minimum sixth form entry requirement five GCSE grades 9-5 including grade 5 in English and Mathematics. Subject criteria: GCSE grade 6 in English Literature and grade 6 English Language required.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
