English Language
at Copleston High School, Ipswich · school or sixth form
What the college says
In the first year, the main two main areas are exploring language in context and how language works in different modes. Students will learn about textual variations (spoken and written mode) and representations such as male and female linguistic differences and how power can affect language. The various language levels will be learnt and applied to texts of differing genres. Language analysis and discursive essays will be developed as well as the ability to evaluate and compare texts. Students will conduct research and be prepared to write one original piece on a chosen linguistic area in one of their exam papers.
