The course is suitable if you enjoy analysing language in real world contexts and exploring how it changes, is learnt, is shaped and manipulated; the course has a lot to do about learning about life through language. This subject gives you a fuller and more perceptive sense of how language is acquired and used in a number of real life contexts. The course often draws on contemporary sources from the media and you will become skilled at closely analysing the changing patterns, structures and techniques used in various contexts.
What you need to get on
Requires GCSEs in English language at grade 5, plus the standard entry requirements of an A Level or mixed programme.
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
