A Level English literature (2 year course) CONTENT OF COURSE: English literature covers poetry, prose and Drama based on selected texts chosen from set-text lists. Students will study a variety of literary texts, ranging from science fiction and political drama to exploring modern and pre-20th century poetry. The coursework unit in the second year of study will involve more critical writing, applying theory to texts of their own choice. The course is assessed through a combination of exam and coursework: • Introduction to the study of Literature • Genre Study • Poetry and Drama • Shakespeare • Independent study PROGRESSION ROUTES: English A Level is unique in so far as it will support entry to the widest range of university courses ranging from Law through to History, Sociology, Psychology compared to any other single A Level.
