A level Economics aims to develop your appreciation for the contribution economics (as a social science) make to the understanding of the wider social environment, particularly how individuals, households and firms make rational and or irrational decisions when faced with choices concerning scare resources. You will be encouraged to challenge your view of the world around you as you develop into being a critical thinker. Fascinating concepts on opportunity cost, diminishing marginal returns, supply and demand, choice, externalities, multiplier effect, allocative efficiency and many others will be explored. The department organises visits to local businesses, Woburn Safari trip and the Bank of England. We also provide the opportunity for students to be part of the Young Enterprise Team.

What you need to get on

Students must have achieved at least five strong passes (to at least Grade 5) at GCSE level, including English Language and Maths.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
