What the college says

The Economics course is designed to provide a broad based knowledge and understanding of Economic issues. It should enable students to develop and acquire a range of transferable skills including: • presenting arguments and making judgements on the basis of available evidence to reach justified recommendations; • solving problems and making decisions using appropriate business tools and methods; • interpreting data, enabling effective analysis and evaluation to reach conclusions. The syllabus should provide students with a critical understanding of the following: • basic microeconomic models and how they operate in relation to current economic problems and issues; • developments in the UK economics and government policies over the past ten years; • how businesses make decisions and how this behaviour can be affected by the structure and characteristics of the industry; • the impact and effectiveness of current government policies to deal with the macroeconomic problems facing the UK.

What you need to get on

6 GCSE Grade 9-4, must include grade 4 or above in English Language. There is no requirement to have studied Economics prior to the course, but a GCSE Maths level 5 grade is essential.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
