The course examines many forms of theatre from different periods. There is a strong emphasis on performance and on an understanding of the context of theatre. Students will also be provided with a wide range of opportunities to develop their understanding and enjoyment of drama and theatre as audience members and performers. All students are encouraged to develop their level of general understanding, focusing on specific areas of interest. Other aspects which will be addressed: Develop an understanding and appreciation of how social, cultural and historical contexts of performance texts have influenced the development of drama and theatre Understand the practices used in 21st century theatre making Develop the creativity and independence to become effective theatre makers Explore texts practically and through written work. Devise and perform an original drama as well as studying a range of texts from different historical periods, comparing styles and performance conditions. Throughout the course students will be required to attend regular theatre visits. A charge will be made for each of these trips.

What you need to get on

- Grade 5 or above in GCSE Drama and GCSE English Language and Literature. If students have not studied GCSE Drama they must have achieved a grade 5 or above in both English Language and English Literature, and show an interest in both the theoretical and practical aspects of theatre. We advise students to take the course if they are currently succeeding and enjoying GCSE Drama, or participating in the school production or other theatre groups outside of school.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
