What the college says
This course will introduce you to and develop your skills within music performance, production and the creative commercial opportunities within the arts sector. You should be enthusiastic, have an active interest in music and be willing to participate in group activities and to work creatively as a member of a team. By completing this course, you will achieve a University of Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production. You will have the opportunity to perform as both a soloist and as an ensemble. You will learn how to creatively use music software using professional standard equipment as well as using our professional recording studio. Units you will study include live music performance, sound recording, composition using music software, critical listening skills and personal music project. You will learn how to perform popular and world music from a range of genres; how the music industry operates, how to work as part of a team and crucially how to record and mix audio and midi. These units make it possible for you to take a performance or a technical route, depending on your interest and skills. You will be required to audition for this course. There is a music-related residential visit as part of this course which will help to further build your skills within the industry. All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a grade 4 at GCSE
What you need to get on
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including English or Maths; or a Level 1 Diploma at Merit Level. You will also be required to audition for this programme.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
