This course will give you the qualifications and experience necessary to enter the field of beauty therapy and go on to work in beauty salons, spas, as a sales representative, on cruise ships, in health centres, or even start your own business. You will work alongside enthusiastic and experienced staff and use up-to-date facilities and equipment. The department runs a variety of trips throughout the year, for example, an overseas spa trip. Students also have the opportunity to compete in WorldSkills competitions. This course will develop your customer care, retailing and team working skills. You will learn how to handle money, multi-task and use your initiative. This course usually takes place over three days. This course has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in: - How to provide eyelash and brow treatments - Remove hair using waxing techniques - Applying make-up - Manicure and pedicure - Facials and skin care You will also develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practice in a salon environment, how to contribute to the effective running of a beauty business, how to carry out effective salon reception duties and how to display retail stock to promote sales in the salon. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification. What you need to get on

Although there are no fixed entry requirements you will be asked to demonstrate your awareness of the subjects, and show a keen interest and motivation. To study at this level, you should ideally have four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including English. Mature students may be accepted on to the course without formal qualifications.
