Turn up the tempo and take your first steps towards an exciting career in the music industry. Whatever your musical background, you will learn how to apply your skills in a range of activities including rehearsing and performing as a band, composing with music software, as well as reading and writing music notation. This course will also help you develop the essential skills required for progression to level 3 and beyond. Performances and practical tasks are the main methods of assessment but you will need to complete written assignments. Some elements of the course will be externally assessed You will have the opportunity to perform in front of people in the theatre, live room and other external venues You will also be encouraged to attend live gigs and performances throughout the year This is a study programme which includes English, maths and work experience in addition to your main programme

What you need to get on

Four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, including English or maths at grade D/3 or above.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
