What the college says
The units within this qualification include all the elements required to provide you with a sound basis for further study. The three mandatory units cover the art of photographic make-up, health and safety and how to create an image based on a theme. Body art, themed face painting, plaiting and twisting hair, apply make-up, instruction on make-up application, provide nail art. You will learn through theory and practical sessions and you will undertake written and practical exams. Working on external clientele to complete your practical assessments. You will need to purchase a uniform, this will be available at a discounted price and ordered directly from our uniform partners. You will also need to purchase a black pair of trousers and a pair of black closed in shoes. You will need to purchase a kit whilst on programme as this will give you all your tools and equipment needed to complete the course. As a media make up student you are not allowed to wear false lashes or nails. All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a work placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.
What you need to get on
Four GCSEs at grade 1 or above, including English and maths at grade 1 or above.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
