The course is wide-ranging and the specification is designed to offer learners opportunities to study, propose and realise prototype solutions, closely linked to the real world of product design, in a range of materials. Recognising the routes that are pursued at GCSE, this specification provides candidates with opportunities to continue their studies either exclusively or as a combination of focus material areas, for example in resistant materials, graphics, electronics or, indeed, a mixture of these. Oral, written and drawing communication skills, problem-solving, cultural and social awareness, critical thinking and analytical, evaluative skills, ?e-folio?, practical skills, CAD / CAM, will all be developed during the course.

What you need to get on

Minimum of B grade at GCSE in the relevant Resistant Materials, Graphic Products, Electronic Products or Product Design subjects. If these have not been studied at GCSE, a B in another practical subject is desirable. Students should have achieved a minimum of four B grades at GCSE.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
