The course is designed as a natural progression from either Engineering or Design Technology. The course is broken down into 3 distinct areas: 1. Principles of Design Engineering 2. Problem Solving in Design Engineering 3. Iterative Design Project The content of this title is focused towards engineered and electronic products and systems; the analysis of these in respect of function, operation, components and materials, in order to understand their application and uses in engineered products/systems that have commercial viability.

What you need to get on

An enthusiasm for all aspects of design is essential and commitment will be required as coursework can be demanding. Design Engineering is intended to reflect the wide range of activities professional designers cover in a range of materials and processes. A core requirement is the ability to communicate and develop design ideas through modelling. You will need a Level 6 or above in GCSE Design & Technology or Engineering plus a 6 in Mathematics.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
