Product Design is an exciting new course that allows students to use a combination of graphics and resistant materials skills as their focus of study. The course is assessed by two 2 hour written examinations worth 25% of the A'level each and a coursework project accounting for the remaining 50% . Students will have access to CAD and CAM as part of their studies as well as a wide range of specialist tools and machinery in the well equipped workshops. What you will do: • Learn about materials and components • Explore aspects of process and manufacturing • Plan and design your own product to a brief • Develop and refine subject specialist skills • Use specialist equipment including computer technology • Develop your transferable skills such as problem solving, team work and communication. Future prospects: This course prepares students well for entering into a wide range of fields such as: • Engineering • Architecture • Graphic design • Interior design • Construction • Product design • Manufacturing • Vehicle design • Carpentry.

What you need to get on

Grade 5 or above, GCSE Graphics and grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics or Grade 5 or above, GCSE Resistant Materials and grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics or Grade 6 in a related subject (eg GCSE Art or GCSE Design and Technology)

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
