This qualification aims to introduce learners to the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work, and some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills. This qualification gives learners the opportunity to investigate the knowledge and skills needed to use counselling skills and engage in a helping interaction appropriately. This qualification is useful for anyone who would like to develop their use of counselling skills for use in either work or a personal capacity. There may be learners who wish to progress towards further qualifications or learners who wish to study this programme in order to complement other programmes (health and social care, children’s care, learning and development, voluntary and community work). This qualification does not qualify learners to practice as a counsellor.

What you need to get on

You must be aged 19 or over. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification, however, you may find it helpful if they have already achieved a Level 1 qualification. The ability to complete written assignments using an acceptable level of English language is required.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
