What the college says

Core Maths is a brand new course for those who want to keep up their valuable maths skills but are not planning on taking AS or A-level mathematics. At the end of the one-year course, you will come out with a level 3 qualification – similar to an AS. The qualification is assessed by final examination. It does carry the same UCAS points as other AS subjects. Core Maths has been designed to maintain and develop real-life skills. What you study is not purely theoretical or abstract; it can be applied on a day-to-day basis in work, study or life, and will include a financial maths element. It will also help with other A-level subjects – in particular with science, geography, business studies, psychology and economics.

What you need to get on

6 GCSE/BTEC passes at Level 4 or above. In addition, you will need a Level 4 or above in mathematics at GCSE.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.

Is it open to 16 to 18 year olds?
