What the college says

Core Maths is for those who want to keep up their valuable maths skills but who are not planning on taking A-level Mathematics. The Course enables students to maintain and develop real-life mathematics skills. What you will study is not purely theoretical or abstract; it can be applied on a day-to-day basis in work study or life. Core maths is available as a two year or one year course (Core Maths accelerated). Core Maths is part of a wider initiative to improve Maths in England. Selected Sixth Form Colleges (including St Brendan?s) and schools were asked to pilot the course in 2014 and it has been available in all schools and colleges since September 2015. In 2020 just under 12 000 thousand students in England took the qualification. Core Maths is the equivalent to an AS-level and so should be taken alongside 3 additional full A-levels or BTEC equivalents.
